Safety Is A Priority

Often safety is casually stated as a priority in our industry and others alike.

The key is harnessing a culture from top to bottom that believes safety is important and is consistently working towards improving their knowledge and practices regarding it.

At Momentum, when we say we take safety seriously, we mean it.

When our team is working at your residence, the last thing you want is for someone to get here. Although your home owner’s insurance is protected by the fact that we have our Worker’s Compensation Policy, there would be nothing worse than having someone injured seriously or heaven forbid, killed during your project. It’s hard to talk about, but in our industry it is a cold reality. Hazardous our never ending and diligence is a must to avoid serious harm to oneself or others.

The first line of defense against these incidents is education and training.

We ensure that everyone on the crew becomes Certified in CPR/First Aid. We conduct routine aerial rescue training that equips the crew to respond effectively in the event that a person was harmed while working aloft. We train employees extensively according to industry standards for work regarding the use of heavy machinery, chainsaws, and other hazardous tasks that take place regularly. On a weekly basis, we have a tailgate safety meeting in which we discuss one safety related topic in accordance with the ANSI and OSHA Standards. We also conduct a hazard analysis and job briefing prior to each job we complete to help the crew foresee any potential hazards, potential protect damage that could occur, and to create a safe, efficient plan. Momentum Tree Experts also pays for training events that continue to educate and prepare our team for safer work environments and improved efficiency.

Our second line of defense is procedures.

As a company, we insist on doing things as safely as possible. Sometimes a job will take longer because we simply are not willing to risk your safety or our team’s. We always implement proper roadside setups with advance warning signs, proper high visibility cone placement around equipment, chocking work trucks, and utilizing drop zone cones to identify areas of highest risk during operations. We adhere to all of the ANSI Z133 Standards which are numerous, and sometimes challenging, but well worth it. Consider this, all of these “standards” are actually in place because of a woman losing her son tragically in this industry and pushing for some form of standard to be created. All of the current standards are written in blood. Someone’s mistakes or misfortunes have been used to help protect those after them performing the same tasks. We also use communication systems on our helmets that enable us to have consistent audible with one another through the entire process. This allows us to hear warnings over loud machinery, discuss plans effectively, perform technical rigging seamlessly, and execute technical crane removals of hazardous or massive trees with precision and clarity.

Our final line of defense is PPE.

Personal Protective Equipment, as required by OSHA and ANSI, is an all too often neglected responsibility of individuals involved in tree care operations. Our team wears PPE the entire time they are performing work at your residence. For our company, this means they are wearing high visibility upper clothing, helmets, ear protection, safety glasses, mesh face shields, chainsaw protective pants or chaps, and optionally gloves. When all training and planning fails to foresee a hazard, PPE is designed to eliminate entirely or mitigate the level of injury that can be incurred by unsuspected events.

At the end of the day, we want you to be at ease while watching our team perform their work, and most importantly we want to keep our team members, our clients, and other pedestrians safe at all times and we invest heavily into making that a reality.

Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP)

Elevating Tree Care Standards with CTSP Certification!

At Momentum Tree Experts, we’re thrilled to share that Mounir, one of our dedicated team members, has recently earned his Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP) credential. At Momentum Tree Experts, we go above and beyond to ensure that safety isn’t just a buzzword but a core value embedded in everything we do. My name is Mounir. I grew up with a passion for nature and everything in it. I spent much of my time exploring, primarily looking for animals whether it be salamanders, snakes, turtles, frogs, or anything similar. I still remember bringing a snake in the house in a zip loc bag to show my mom. She was NOT as excited as I was to my bewilderment…. As I got older I realized I loved physical challenges and spent a lot of time physically training and even thought I would pursue a career oriented in the direction of human anatomy and physiology in some capacity.

I pursued further education up to the point of an associates degrees in science with Mott Community College out of pocket while working full time and realized I had no clue what I wanted to continue going to school for. So as fate would have it, I took a temporary pause and found myself starting a job doing power line tree trimming for DTE after a friend encouraged me to give it a shot during a bonfire conversation. Soon after starting, I realized I had a strong desire to learn to climb and worked hard to acquire my Line Clearance Journeyman Qualification with the IBEW Local 17 Union and successfully did so. Despite the enormous importance and challenges of line clearance work, I found myself drawn to the residential world and the far more dimensional tree care services that it entailed. From planting trees, pruning trees properly, crane removals, to root excavation and soil amendments. I realized how expansive the industry was and how vast the knowledge base was in order to be in the group of elites and started working towards taking my ISA Certified Arborist examination. Success! Roughly 2 years later I took the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Courses and passed receiving my TRA Qualification. In 2023, I acquired my qualification as an Oak Wilt Specialist. I am currently pursuing my CTSP and have more on the horizon. All this education is driven by one thing. A desire to do my best. I feel an enormous conviction and responsibility to my clients that I have the RIGHT answer for them. I know that in order to truly have the ability to assess each person’s unique circumstances and tree care needs, it will require a career of pursuing further education and experience.

Work aside I am married by God’s grace to the most wonderful person, Danielle, my high school sweet heart and we currently live with our black cat, Sebastian. We love God and are blessed to be a part of a wonderful church, Bible Baptist Church of Howell, as well as having a passion for fishing, camping, hiking, traveling, exercising, and doing things that are exciting. I recently purchased a dirt bike after never even riding one so that is the newest adventure!

If you have read all the way up to this point, thank you so much. Hopefully you have a better idea of who owns and runs this company and we are so grateful that you’re considering Momentum and supporting us!
